Dear forum family

I wish to ask for your invaluable assistance in finding out about English language teaching at Dhahran for the royal air force.

If anyone has any experience in this field please educate and inform myself.

I have tried searching for such a topic but have been unsuccessful

Many thanks

I believe your "ins" right now (in order of packages) are:

BAE
Blue Force
Direct through the military

...but I could be wrong.

You don't ask any real specific questions, so I don't know what else to say.

It's a large air base that has switched contractors/providers several times over the last decade (and beyond).

Some former NITI inmates are at BAe. There are dept heads.

Unlike NITI everybody gets the same treatment.
Military environment.
25 - 30 hours
Pay is always on time.
No extra hours
They remember to pick you up from the airport.
Nice accommodation, but you'll be too knackered to appreciate it.

your "in" will depend a lot on your nationality.

Thank you for your messages and replies.

Things are not going well at my current place of work. Hence all 17 of the remaining teachers are looking for work elsewhere.

Hello niti team leader mate,

Are you really holding that job title, and is the salary better than what they are paying the esl teachers?

Is it esl hell as many are claiming it to be mate, or is really not that bad a way to earn some clams in the sandpit?

Have you or are you are still working there, and is it Al Hasa, mate?

I have friends working there now and they are actively trying their best to get out. They are cutting their salary after working for them for 2+ years. Some haven’t been paid for overtime they worked 5 to 7 months ago. Average salary is 12,500 but they cut your salary for being off sick etc. One guy that has been there for almost 3 years says he’s never taken home a full month’s salary. The sad part is he’s actually being serious.

I do still work here and have seen massive changes since first joining.

When I joined we had approximately 180 teachers now we have 16 or so.

Salaries reducing and morale plummeting even further it is.no surprise the ones remaining are also looking to.move.

The good times are over

It seems every recruiter under the Saudi Sun, is coming out from the shade and trying to fill the holes in this place.

Are more really leaving, than staying mate?

I don't think you had 180 teachers at one time. Maybe 180 plus throughout your time there.

When you say you are a team leader, do you mean you are a head teacher or in management? You must have had a voice to fight back on teachers not getting paid overtime or the poor conditions there. You must have been in meetings and told the higher ups how they are mistreating their staff (forgetting them at the airport/ not paying OT, etc).

I know of a teacher who was there in fall of 2014 or spring of 2015. He requested a day off work to deal with personal manners concerning his son in Spain. He got approved for the day off and when he came back to work the next day, he was fired for missing work. You must remember that right?

That is NITI in a nutshell.

If you want to leave NITI, apply to any of the several contracts at the base in Dhahran or a better job. Nothing is stopping you. Find something better and more fulfilling.

You have three plus years of experience there so you should be able to land a job anywhere you want.

Put it this way, we are at 17 teachers now.

More trainees yet to arrive but I have heard that in order to avoid paying overtime, the teaching periods are being reduced to 7 and all teaching periods will be increased from 40 mins to 55 mins.

Foo Fighter Dave, nobody really has a voice at NITI. Or at least not during my time there. Teachers are treated appallingly as anyone who has worked there will tell you. Lead Teachers are treated just like everyone else. I got tired of being taken for granted and left, as did 99% of the wonderful people I worked alongside. You just reach a point when it’s no longer worth it.

I don’t want to put people off applying there. But please do so with your eyes open.
