Just wondering if the turmoil caused by the much publicized but never implemented demise of the Foundation Programs at universities in the country has been postponed until such measure is really adopted. |

One way to the increase the flow of students ready for university study was to create the EMSAT. This means that now the gatekeeper is the UAE government, rather than IELTS or TOEFL. High school teachers can teach to the exam. More students will hit the benchmark. The UAE government will say that the topics on the EMSAT are more familiar to the students, but many people will wonder if the students' proficiency really is that much better than a few years ago.
Emiratis also have access to international high schools, travel and a largely English environment. The Foundation Programs will not be swept away, but will slowly wither away. The English educational focus has shifted to elementary and high schools and to the "last ditch" language schools. |
