What type of salary could one expect with a PGCE and CELTA in Russia? Do international schools in Moscow and SPB pay well? I've heard that £35k per annum is possible but I don't know if this is true or not.

With these qualifications, you might be lucky enough to land one of those top-jobs with an international school-however they usually ask for considerable previous experience too, backed-up with good references etc. There are specialist agencies which recruit people for these such as Carfax, rather than the usual sites such as TEFL.COM.You could also look under the employment 'vacancies' section on the EXPAT.RU site where they come up occasionally?
Let us know if you have any luck and how you get on?

With both a CELTA and a PGCE, you should be able to pick and choose where you work. I worked in Russia (Samara region) for a year, a few years back and, in all honesty, it's the best job I have ever had since I have been in TEFL. While the city (Togliatti) is not the prettiest by a long shot, the school was great and cannot complain.

I have a PGCE, but not a CELTA, but it never hindered me.

I lived in a school flat (sharing with one other teacher, which I will not do again), from which they took 3,000 rubles a month, all inclusive, from your salary, so I didn't miss it. I collected between 45,000 and 50,000 a month on average, which was nearly three times the normal monthly salary for that city. When I first started the value of the ruble against the GBP wasn't too bad, but by the time I left, the sanctions started hitting Russia hard and the value nosedived by well over half then when I started.

The school itself can give you as much work as you want. When I first started, I had to work Saturday afternoons, which basically screwed my Saturday up. After about 5 months, I told the school Deputy Director I no longer wished to do it, from which she agreed that I could stop.

I would have gone back the following year on the condition I do not work weekends, no Individual students and I have my own flat to myself. They agreed to that too. In the end I didn't go back because the winter just dragged on and on and I could no longer be bothered to live with the endless snow and -30 to -40 degrees. Also, the almost worthless ruble made it financially impractical to do so.

Best of luck to you though.

There are vacancies advertised for ex-pat teachers in provincial cities which pay around 30-40.000 roubles PER MONTH!O.K. so they include free accom.(sometimes private instead of shared) and a few other small perks but translated into foreign currency this is peanuts and will leave you with nothing to take home at the end of your contract!I know of Russians who earn even less for teaching English, but they usually have their own place to live anyway.
The price of essentials such as groceries is high too and good quality stuff even more so (if you can get it with the embargo on many foreign imports).
So the general situation nowadays is that with most jobs in Russia you go there just for the experience, along with the chance to learn Russian etc. but not to make money.....if that is a consideration then try other countries.
