From my exp you pay external costs and school pays the 'in China' costs ie RP. |

That sucks, at least $400 lost with HK trip so! I just presumed that most employers would cover this expense as it is part of the visa process. |

Your situation seems different to the bog standard hire and they are clearly keen to have you.
Do clarify situation with school though. |

I think it depends on who the employer is to a large extent. I would guess most public schools would not do this. I work at a public high school, but in the international department teaching students preparing to go to foreign universities. They reimbursed my travel to the location, my trip to HK, and all related visa costs. They even paid for me to ship my stuff here. |
