Thinking about returning to Britain and signing on as a supply teacher with one of the Education Boards. In possession of a British passport, so no problem from than angle.
Canadian trained with B.A., B.Ed., T.E.S.L. Certficate, and M.A.
Presently registered as a Certfied Teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers, and have taught French as a Second Language in Whitby, Ontario, but did not enjoy the experience as most Canadian students hate learning French.
The cost of living in London is horrendous, but would be willing to teach in the North, where living costs are lower.
Does anyone have tips about working as a supply in Britain and the approximate cost for renting accommodation? |

It's a while since I went on supply but start getting your police checks sorted in Canada now or you may have a long wait in Britain before you are let loose on kids. I think the rigour of the checks varies around the country but I have known people waiting for months for the paperwork to be sorted in the Middle East when a bit of preparation would have saved the waiting.
Rent isn't too bad north of Watford Gap but the cities can work out much more expensive than the towns. I find it much cheaper to live outside of Glasgow and bus it in using a travel ticket which then does me for the weekend too.
Don't worry it ain't that grim oop North! In fact, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle beat London everytime (except in Football). |

The cost of living in London might be high but so are the wages for supply teachers - up to 150 per day! |

But for supply 'teachers' read supply 'crowd control' (In High Schools). Yes, you can make money, but can you keep your sanity? And if you think Canadian kids hate learning French... |

If you supply teach in Montreal, you may work for the English Montreal School Board, or the "Commission Scolaire de Montreal."
Pay for supply teachers in the English Montreal school board is $162 canadian dollars per day, after deductions.
Rent for a bachelor apartment goes from $500 to $1000 a month, depending on the location.
Ghost has changed his mind about teaching in Britain. He would not be able to cope with the class management issues. He is now looking further afield. Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan are in the pipeline. |
