I went for both primary and secondary interviews last month , and have
just been offered a primary post.

Does anybody know the liklihood of being offered a secondary post
as well , or is it always a case of either / or ? (ie : they will only offer
you one even if both sets of interviewers thought you were brilliant.....)

The primary is an AM school , and its not obvious from the info. that
I've got through whether I will be shared with another school or not .
I can't get any sensible answer from HK at the moment (maybe they
are caught up with SARS ? ...or maybe not !)

The AM school is being very pushy that I say yes ASAP. I'm not going to
commit before I find out about the , phantom , school.......but what I
need to know is what kind of "bargaining" is possible in this situation ?
If both schools turn out to have saturday schedules , are miles apart ,
and in , er , difficult catchment areas.....then is there anything you can
do about it , or is it entirely out of your hands ? I'm not after perfection ,
just balance.......

Oh , and is it true that there are no bands in the primary sector ?

Thanks for your help. Laughing

Was told today that I am on a "waiting list" for secondary.......
How long could this take ??!! (How long is a piece of string ....) Has anyone any experience here?

Found out about the 2nd primary school . Same area , and a PM school
which was what I was hoping for ....... But also wants an hour on
saturday morning. Has anyone said "NO" to this and got a school to
re-think ? (Like tagging it on to Friday or something ??!!)
Is negotiation EVER an option in HK?!!

Last question . What kind of a place is Shatin ? Any info. here is appreciated.

Did they email you or send a letter?

I still have not heard anything...

I also interviewed in Hong Kong.
Have heard nothing. I live in Japan...it's not THAT far to send a letter.

I am wondering if the SARS has anything to do with the waiting list, since school has been out since shortly after the interviews and they will have to teach into the summer.

I interviewed in Toronto, and also haven't heard anything. I guess I feel better that we'll find out by letter (so maybe it'll take longer to get a letter to Canada?) Confused Maybe I was fooling myself, but I felt the interview went pretty well.
What is up with this 'waiting list' thing? Does anyone who is currently teaching with NET know? How are you supposed to make plans for future/current jobs if you're waiting on a waiting list? Argh!
Another thing: do you think they'll let us know if we are NOT accepted?
I think I'm getting obessive about this.

Oops, I meant 'obsessive', not 'obessive'. Fingers flying on keyboards tend to make mistakes.

Looked at the letter for secondary again . The wording is very ambiguous
but I'm thinking that it means that we need to wait whilst they allocate
us a school , rather than decide IF we get a school.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of organisation here, nor consistency.

Both primary schools contacted me directly , so there was no "confirmation " letter or e-mail . Maybe that will come later.

And the primary had no idea that I had been offered the secondary too .... seemed alittle put out by this , and are still demanding that I make up my mind BEFORE I have heard from the other school ! Tough !! This whole process has taken 4 months , they will just have to wait , like we all have.

to all aspriring nets the process from letter saying yopu passed the interview can be long and drawen out last year it took 3 months so be patient. with the sars the ed dept are hoping that you will still be interested so the ball is in you court so as to speak. around june last year I started ringing hk personel section each week and eventually things did happen so try it later on when sars is less of the issue.
best of luck
