I'm coming out to Prague in October to do a tesol at Oxfordtefl. It was hard enough to decide on that school so i hope no-one has any horror stories...

What I would like to know is: I'm planning on coming out a few days before to get some touristy stuff in. Would anyone be able to recommend a good hostel which is fairly central and where I might meet some people to sample the local brews with?

Also, is anyone going to be on my course in October?

And finally, I'm looking for a good grammar reference book to bring with me. Is the definitive one Michael Swan's Practical English? Or has anyone got any other recommendations?

Thanks so much.

Helen

hi Helen,

I too will be going to Prague in October, however I'm doing Trinity over at Prague Schools.

I will be, at some point, staying at this hostel http://www.sirtobys.com/
which I unanimously heard is great and very safe and clean.

Unfortunately I can't recommend a good book.

Which city are you originally from? I'm from Montreal, Canada.

Ah, I've never been to Canada, but it's on my list of places to visit. I met a lot of Canadians while away travelling - they seem to have the same sense of humour as us British folk.

I'm from just south of London.

I've heard good things about Sir Toby's as well, I was just wondering if there was anywhere as good, in a slightly more central location.

...can't wait....

Helen,

you can try this site:

If ever you come to Canada, just please keep in mind two things:

1 - Montreal is like no other city in Canada. It has a mood if its own and does not represent the rest of Canada. If I had to liken it to the USA, it's the New York of Canada.

2 - French Canadian culture is very different from the Anglophone/American culture.
