I read about the new director (and the welcome goodbye to Nabil) and the contract for the Foundation year at Nizwa.

Have things improved at ELS?

I found this in another thread:

From DingirEnki

"I heard similar stories about the old manager (Nabil, who was a less than stellar manager,) offering jobs to inexperienced teachers, but the new manager is entirely different and ELS is improving drastically. They're also starting to require experienced teachers. As for Nizwa specifically, they are requiring at least 2 years EFL experience."

I think this is the nicest thing I've heard about Nabil - but I'm glad (for both students and staff) that things appear to be getting better.

The one thing that strikes me about these threads across the boards is that the problems with institutes are never about the staff (because they are removed if they are no good) but about a series of incompetent managers and the misery they cause.

Thanks for the link DMB.

That is quite a good salary (800 OR) as they are not even requiring an MA. I thought the biggest negative was the paltry one month of summer leave. This is supposed to be a university and they are offering language school holidays. People stuck out in the hinterlands like this need a longer summer break rather than a shorter one. Smile

It also looks like they haven't ironed out whether they will have Thursday classes, but I noted that they are trying to avoid split shifts.

90% of the students female!! Thus they will be from the most conservative families who don't want their girls going to the wicked big city of Muscat. Cool

This gives them the chance to prove that things have improved.
