Yes, El Salvador is a small country with a broad history of political and geographical unrest - but the people are earnestly seeking peace and stability today. My first impressions were a bit tainted by some obvious needs for improvement...but there is a true chance for a future of promise and prosperity. What a surprise to find the new Presidents son in one of my classes - and not even realizing it for the first month or two (I hope I didn't come across too harshly with him ), he's a good little guy, gregarious and intensely talkative. His printing is atrocious and he tends to be slack concerning his assignments but, after all is said and done, he seems to have the markings of a true politician, especially when speaking to the class on a poignant topic such as the former FMLN. If only we had any idea of what may be instore for us on this teaching journey... |
