Yeah, I think you're right there Chester.
I remember reading about the huge salaries they have to pay members of Jakarta's city council(those in charge of planning and property development) to stop them getting bribed. They probably take the huge salaries and the bribes of course. |

I've never had major problems with touts. They're annoying, but they usually bugger off after a while, especially when responded to in Indonesian.
When arriving at Jakarta airport on an international flight I just go upstairs and get a Bluebird taxi. It's very easy. Going out to where the throngs of people are on the bottom level is very annoying.
I remember getting a tad annoyed by touts in Yogya a couple of years ago. Then one guy near the bus station saw me walking along and tried to speak to me, but I brushed him off. He said "I don't care, I was just trying to help". He was actually, so I felt bad after that. |
