A colleague is planning ot take two bottles of Alcohol in his baggage when entgering Oman by Air. I have advised him to not take any Alcohol in his luggage.

Yes, they may have Bars in Hotels, etc but it's the luck of the draw when entering and you are in front of the Customs officer. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on taking booze in.

Don't do it, man. They may be lax about searching luggage as they were with me but it's a crap shoot and they will be especially thorough with newcomers coming in as well as enforcing new guidelines that came in force after 9/11. They are quite touchy about alcohol. Even reconsider taking in Listerine. Also, beware of tapes and cd's. Technically they don't like any pornography or Jewish content in books and music.

Customs Regulations

Travellers entering Oman may not carry with them or in accompanied baggage any firearms, narcotics and ammunition, or pornography; all are subject to seizure if found. No more than one bottle of liquor is permitted per non-Muslim adult. Unaccompanied baggage and household goods are also subject to inspection. Books, videotapes, and audiotapes may be reviewed prior to being released to the owner.

Stabnkill is exactly correct. Kitebiker is also correct, but I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over the Listerine. (gross stuff, anyway) But Kitebiker's most accurate statement is that it's a crapshoot. Twice now I have had a greeting "Welcome back, Teacher!" from customs guys. Eight times entry, not checked for anything once. But, ya never know.
Hey, what's the worst that can happen? They take a bottle or a tape away from you?
Relax. No big thing.
