Hello!
I want to teach English in Chile!
Just wondering if anyone has information on the average salaries, cost of living, best/worst places to work, etc.
I would really appreciate that info!
Thanks,

I've been here 3-1/2 years and I can tell you it's a jungle! Your questions are a bit general but I'll try to help.
Best/worst places to teach: What are you looking for? Are you certified? the general consensus on worst is Sam Marsalli, who recruit by internet because no one already here would work for them on a bet! There is no best, per se, but some pay a liveable wage while others don't. i can tell you that almost no one will respond to e-mails.
Cost of living: relatively high - no bargains here, no living on peanuts. People tend to share housing and there are ads scattered in the gringo hangouts.
Average salaries: you shouldn't take less than 5000 pesos/hr but a lot of schools will try and slip by on 3000. On top of that, they'll almost all deduct 10% of this, as required by law, for taxes. You can get that back the next year, usually.
feel free to ask whatever else and I'll try to help |
