has anyone got a crazy story about dumm-ass teachers in Jakarta? I have a beaut! A teacher at (yes) ILP gave pate' to her students, then got them to read the ingredients. MAIN INGREDIENT WAS PORK!!!! the students were horfied - moslems of course. they ran to the bathroom and threw up!
an another story, believe it or not, again at ILP. one class out of a group of 4 scored perfect points on a final test. their teacher (Indonesian) had given them the answers because the teachers were pressured to get good results to impress the management of the company they were teaching. the male teachers were treated with suspicion and intimidated. once it was learned that the culprit was a woman all was forgiven and the test scores were "doctored" to be more realistic. Believe it ir not |

The worst part about that first story was that this pate incident was actually during rhamadan.
In the second incidents that same person, the teacher coordinator, was one of three bule teachers for this company. We were warned to do well with this company or else... believe it or not, the only one to receive complaints was in fact the teacher coordinator herself. Apparently she treated the adult professional students as children, and said sh$& and damn in the classroom. |

I was lookin through these old threads and was reminded of an incident that I witnessed. A couple of dumbass teachers saw this teenage student who was wearing a pair of nice, new red shoes. Adorning the toes of these shoes were a couple of swastikas. OK, in the west it would be fair enough to get riled about such a thing, but this poor girl was an Indonesian Hindu, wearing a peace/goodwill symbol which can be found on many a hindu shrine. Outraged, these two teachers hauled her ass to the DOS without giving her a chance to explain. Funnily enough, the DOS was a hindu and was highly unimpressed with the two dumbass teachers. They were advised to learn a little about the culture of their new home. |

Alas, ILP has had many problems since they hired that Canadian and her lover from ause.(see my other posts)
One 3 of my students told me that when se was a teacher see was hitting on them and believe it or not, she got promoted to DOS!!! And then to an admin job???
Funny how that works.
I have also herd of lots of pressure put on the really good DOS on the 3rd floor and doctored tests as the new teachers didn't teach very well; but what can you expect when you hire non experienced teachers?
I think its very sad when I started there were 18 foreign teachers and when I left only 3 and those 2 very bad apples |

There is a key difference between the Nazi insignia that is commonly called "swastika" and the true original "suastika" (Sanskrit) that is a symbol in Hinduism:
The Nazis always rendered it backwards. So the insignia on that girl's shoes was in fact NOT a Nazi swastika but instead a real Hindu suastika.
Just a bit of trivia to amuse you... |

That was my point - it wasn't a Nazi swastika!!! It wasn't me who thought it was Nazi.
Anyway the Nazi swastika and the Hindu swastika are the same way round but the nazi version was often crooked. |

I don't think that's correct. The Nazi swastika is has arms turning clockwise, whereas most (but not all) of the Hindu swastikas spin counter-clockwise. |

Well the ones on her shoes were facing the same bloody way as a nazi one, so let's leave it at that! The Nazis also used it left facing on occasion.
It was also the symbol of the British Boy Scout Movement until the 1930s when it became a bit "uncool".
Rudyard kipling hade it on all the dust jackets of his books, until again, it became uncoll in '30s. |
