Anyone know of a good employer in the Philippines? Also what are the expected rates of pay and visa requirements. Thanks.

In the Philippines, there are excellent native speakers of English among the Filipino population, many of whom have lived in (and been educated in or even born in) the U.S. Other Filipino English teachers have near-native-speaker proficiency.

As a result, very few non-Filipinos are hired to teach English. Why should they be hired? Wink

AsiaTraveller is right ...

although there is one language school in Cebu which advertises TEFL positions here on Dave's from time to time.

If I find it, I'll post it.

I free-lanced in Manila for 2 years among the expat Chinese and Japanese communities ... and loved the place and the people, but there's no real TEFL market there for the reason mentioned by AsiaTraveller.

The better international schools (I.S. Manila, for example) do hire native speakers to teach many subjects, but they do not hire from in-country. You'd have to be well qualified and apply for a position before you get there.

OK - I found it.

The school is called ALTA (American Language Teaching Academy) and they are located in Cebu.

Here's their website URL:
