A lot of people have mentioned that they teach mostly adults and/or business English in Latin America. One question that comes to mind is whether machismo ever gets in the way of learning for any adult students?
I have lived in Argentina and Brazil for extended amounts of time and though I have not started teaching yet in everyday life it seemed to be a non-stop issue in daily life... not that I view it as something that cannot be dealt with or perhaps ignored... but has anyone ran into any sort or problems with machismo and teaching Enlgish?

Hi NomadAmerica,

I'm from Mpls, BTW. Where are you in that fair city? Weather's a little frigid these days, so I hear from the relatives back there. I've taught classes in the US with latin American men in them, and never found machismo to be any sort of problem, even in classes where the great majority of ss were latin men. It seems they can turn it off and on at will. I would not worry about it. I think they respect the office of "teacher," altho not as much as the Chinese respect it.....

Hello Very Happy
I am a teacher in Argentina and I am argentine. Let me tell you that though there might be some old hints of machismo in our society, we , women teachers, are not discriminated for being as such, not by our own students, but by our fellow teachers at work also. So I wonder now where you have teaching in Argentina that you felt that, or, was it so long ago...? Question

When he decided he'd better get a third opinion - the Doc told him that above all, he was lazy!
