This might be helpful to you. It comes from Caledonian's hiring contract and I think that it makes the job guarantee much less attractive:

"Full time teaching lessons per week (except during holiday periods and during shortages): 20, plus an additional six as requested by the Employer. (In the event of a lesson shortage the Employer shall inform the Employee of the procedures for obtaining administrative work or other alternative work up to the equivalent of four missed lessons for the calendar month in question. In the unlikely event that the Employee is placed on disciplinary probation, the Employer may modify the number or language lessons. The Employer assumes no other liability related to a shortage of lessons for any reason.)"

I read this to mean if they don't have work for you, their only obligation is to inform you of the procedures for obtaining a minimal amount of administrative work in lieu.
