What are the chances of someone with very little experience working as an ESL teacher in Australia. I am completing my B.S. and I have a TESL certifiticate. What can I expect?
Is there any truth to the idea that Australian schools may be looking for a North American accents?
Thanks,

Sorry mate, that isn't true. I can't speak for New Zealand but Australians are not interested in American accents.
Something else to consider is the visa situation. You would need someone to sponsor you if you are not already there working/studying. For a work visa, their immigration laws ask that the sponsor submit some kind of formal letter stating that the foreigner is better for the job and your accent won't really be a factor.
Would you consider going there to study? When you arrive with a study visa, you can apply for permission to work up to 20 hours a week and then you could get a job as a ESL instructor part-time.
Good luck and PM me if you have anymore questions. Australia is an awesome country to work and live in! |
