Hello All -
I am just starting out in a job hunt for a position in a small city in Chile. I am a certified NYC public high school teacher with three years expereience teaching English to recent immigrants. I am hoping to find a job in Chile to start in August or September, but I am new to this game. I am very flexible and well qualified, but I don't know quite where to start. Where besides Valparaiso and Vina del mar (which judging from your comments seem to be hard to get) are some good places to look for jobs in Chile? Any help or advice you have would be great.
Thanks!!!

I heard that after Santiago, the next best place to look for teaching positions is in Punta Arenas... the last main port city in Chile. I met a few travelers who traveled throughout Patagonia who liked Punta Arenas, stayed there, and taught English in public high schools for a few months. Pay wasn't great I'm sure but at least they didn't need the credentials or experience.

Next on the list would probably be Concepcin. They have one of the best universities in the country and it's a fairly decent-sized city. It's in the southern part as well about 7 hours south of Valpo.

The cities to the north aren't as reliable for teaching jobs, mainly because there are very few institutes in that part of the country... not sure why. I would look at cities south of Santiago before looking up north.. it's not only easier to find work, but it's the prettiest part of the country! Smile

August/September aren't the best months to look for jobs but it's better than November, December or January - the worst ones! Good luck... let me know if you have any more questions.
