Has anyone else here learned of/encountered the latest MLI sfafu? Apparently the sole travel agent MLI employees are obliged to book their paid/return tickets with has now decided to work to rule: he will only issue tickets to the home of record, no substitutions allowed.

And he wants the LPO to arrive one week in advance of departure.

You can, he says, book a flight elsewhere if you really want, but you must pay extra. No matter how much closer the alternative destination might be.

Presumably this headache will no longer be around next year, under HCT. But it does seem as though MLI is going out in style.

Do you mean by 'snafu' that you have to pay for new tickets to be issued so that GHQ does get to know that you've actually used their money to go somewhere that's not your home of record? It's just always been a case of the travel agent in question bending GHQ rules to suit MLI staff. Plus closer doesn't always mean cheaper...

No, it's not just that. If you choose to go anywhere else, it _has to_ cost more. At least, that's what I heard. And you must pay the difference.

Addendum to last note: sorry, Dhango, I may have missed an important point in your message. Are you under the impression that we are obliged only to go to our home of record on vacation?

That is not what our contract says. Check it out. Not to mention the MLI web page.

It is not diddling the military to choose to go elsewhere, as long as it costs less than the ticket to your home of record--or, failing that, if you pay the difference.

But the travel agent has apparently personally legislated that it must cost more, or he won't book it for you. He is deternimed to get the full commission, no matter how much it costs GHQ.
