I really want to teach in Mexico but would prefer not to teach at a business school. Are there opportunities out there? I'm mostly hearing about business schools. Also, I'd appreciate any feedback/advice on where to start etc. I have a B.A. in Political Science and very little experience (no teaching certificate). What do you think?

Thanks!

Britt

In the city where I live, there are a few business schools and technology schools that offer English instruction, although their programs are rather limited, and their wages are at the lower end of the scale. The majority of ELT opportunities for someone with no training or experience in teaching Englsh would probably be language schools in La Repblica de Yucatn. I might add that the better language schools in this city get quite a number of applicants who have training and/or experience.

Best wishes!

Depending on what city in Mexico, you can likely find work at a language school. In DF, the business focussed ELT schools pay higher, but are more demanding on credentials. Language schools that teach a general audience pay a little lower. Without teaching experience or training, you may find it a little difficult anywhere in Mexico, depending on when you want to teach. Example...there is currently a hoard of university graduates looking at Mexico and further south for this summer (based on the emails I get), some with creds, some without.
