I've heard Chiang Mai is the worst for pay and living costs. I need some recommendations !

Get outta here. You want to come to Thailand, or not?

Okay, I'll make it simpler.

Which cities/towns in Thailand generally have a lower cost of living?

This is only hearsay; YMMV, but
I've heard that in certain Thai prisons, they offer free room and board.
Can't get much lower than that! Razz

They're scattered all over the country, so the choice of locale is yours.
Don't know about proximity to any beaches. Sad

Happy to help. Wink

Bangkok is the best pay and day to day living expenses aren't considerably more than anywhere else you're likely to find work.
It also depends a bit on your qualifications and experience.

Have a look at this:

Good luck!

Junkmail, this poster seems to get on Dave's after indulging a little of his favorite "candy", and comes up with crap. That may be why people have dumped on him, just a little.

On April 30, 2005, he posts, asking advice about expenses in Thailand:
Quote:
I'm planning to leave Canada and go teach English in Thailand....

Then, on the same day, he is offering advice about Thailand:
Quote:
I highly suggest that if you are going to be teaching English and you want to live a decent life, I would suggest signing a contract for no less than
35000 Baht a month. And most schools won't pay that amount.

On May 2, 2005, he writes:
Quote:
I'm not quitting school forever, but at this point in my life I want to travel and see the world and experience life.

But, May 4, 2005, he writes:
Quote:
In 2001 I came to China to teach English, four years later I'm still here (ed.- emphasis, mine) but am doing an entirely different line of work. There's been both highs and lows in this time, and there's many things I regret doing - but it's been quite the experience to say the least!

Will the "real" Hed Kandi, please stand up. Where is he? Canada, or China? Does he have Thailand experience, or know nothing about Thailand?

You get the picture. He can come to Thailand, if he wishes, and has the means.

Your (Hed Kandi's) question is irrelevant for two reasons: 1) this ratio you're talking about is roughly the same all over Thailand. If you live where salaries are low, the cost of living is notably lower, almost in precise harmony, one with the other. (Exceptions are Chiang Mai and especially the islands, where it'll be at least somewhat harder to make the money you need.) 2) Salaries are low in Thailand and you get a lot for your money. This means the inclination to save isn't strong at all as it means you miss out on an awful lot and don't have much to show for it in your bankbook.

I think I share your disposition toward Hed Kandi in general, but you never know why these kinds of things show up. Could be a mistake in the vB code, could be two people sharing a computer, could be a beer/no beer swing, who knows.

Well, S.G., you're very generous and, as a result, now there is information in the forum which will benefit all who read it.
