Hey everyone!

First of all, this is my first post, so... HI!

Secondly... I am an Australian citizen of Italian background, and I would like to know if anyone can give me information about getting an Italian passport. I know the best thing to do would be to visit the consulate, but before I do that I would like to hear what you people have to say. OK so here's the deal: I was born here but my mum was born in Italy, and all my aunties and uncles were too blah blah blah. The problem is they were all naturalised before I was born (well I think its a problem anyway, from what I have heard). Does anyone have any information about whether I am able to get an Italian passport or not? Can anyone give me some hints or something? Thanks!

Hey Giozue,

Anything having to do with your Aunts and Uncles does not matter because you cannot obtain citizenship through them.

As I understand it, only your mother is of Italian descent? If she truly was naturalized before you were born then you are out of luck. Another thing, if your mother was born before 1948 she cannot pass Italian citizenship on to you.

It may be possible for your mother to reclaim her Italian citizenship and then pass it on to you somehow, but as you said, you should check with your consulate to get all of the specific requirements. They all differ on some things.

So if you get naturalised, do you automatically lose your Italian citizenship?
