Hola

I am a New Zealander and would appreciate any insight anyone might have about my situation.
I have CELTA, BEd (primary) and Grad Dip in Secondary (specialising in French, Spanish and ESOL).

I am interested in going to Spain in November. I do not have an EU passport and I don't think i will be able to get a visa as schools will not hire over the net i.e. no job contract. What are my chances of getting a job (teaching or other), and where are the best places for me to try? I was thinking about Valencia.

I would appreciate any advice,

Ginny

If you're worried about being illegal, then why are you coming here? As a Kiwi you can teach legally in the UK for up to two years there are loads of TEFL posts available there). You can also teach in Asia on an equal footing with EU and US residents, for example in Thailand.

Please remember that visas and work permits exist for a reason: if you do not work legally then you are not paying taxes and are therefore using all the services and infrastructure of a country without contributing a cent towards it all - Spain needs teachers, but there are more than enough UK teachers and legalised non-EU teachers to do the work: all illegal workers do is to reduce their possibilities of getting real contracts with stable salaries and benefits - not an unreasonable thing to ask for in modern Europe.

Please remember that working illegally isn't just "naughty" - it's morally wrong and doing so will adversely affect the lives of Spaniards and legal EU workers alike.

To be honest, your chances of getting work are really pretty good, depressingly - go to smaller academies who dont really mind "bending" the rules and youll be fine: look in the yelow pages for addresses.

Thanks. I am trained as a secondary Spanish teacher in NZL and I really need full immersion for a year or two. If I could work legally I would and I have tried everything through contacts etc to get a job contract for a visa. Unfortunately I have to do it this way so that I can get some real language experience for my career.

Thanks for your help

Ginny

You are from NZ and you want to be immersed in Spanish? Then why don't you apply for a working holiday visa in Chile?
