I am a US citizen, about to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Development Studies (THird World Development, not the childhood kind). I am hoping to break into the ESL world, but do not have much experience. I don't anticipate that I will be teaching for much more than a year, year and a half, and the fee for ESL certification programs seems not really worth it. I don't need to save up any money, but I'm not into losing any either. I want to work in Africa (though Latin America may be an option as I have some Spanish ability), and ideally begin to learn French, Portuguese, or Swahili.
Do I really need to be certified?
Where should I be looking for jobs? What's the best way to locate employers and contact them?
I'm still new to this thing and I would appreciate any help tremendously.
thanks so much.
