Yes, but have you read them? Not exactly world-shaking information being shared... Laughing Not to mention about half the teachers are either lazing on a beach somewhere thinking that they need to pack, waiting in a security line to board their plane, or just arrived and nursing the usual August case of jet lag back in the Gulf.

So, how are you liking August in Qatar?

maybe KSA and Oman are just more dynamic than Qatar Wink
Actually it is hitting 40 degrees here in Istanbul and I am suffering a bit. AC is not too common here(in homes). I miss the AC of the ME.

LOL dmb and VS

Well yes there are ACs EVERYWHERE here! I think one of the best things about August in Qatar is that there are not many people around which means lots of opportunities to shop in the malls here and no queues and less traffic on the roads Very Happy

PS KSA "dynamic"??? Laughing

And remember by whacking the AC to maximum, standing on your bed and leaning at just the right angle, you dispense with the need to carry a hair dryer in your luggage.

Don't they have AC?

This is not urban myth but true. One day i went to the Oasis hotel and the pool cooling system was broken. So they dumped big blocks of ice in the pool to cool the water down. It was impossible to swim in a straight line, so i just stood at the edge of the pool(with a fellow poster) drinking beer. Lovely way to spend a saturday afternoon. Cool

another true story. My window in the living roon was broken(not Qatar, Istanbul) I took the day of work to wait for the guy to turn up and fix it. He didn't turn up. I took another day off work, same again. In total I took 5 days off work to get the window fixed. Evil or Very Mad

After a few years in the Gulf, I often carried a sweater. I found that they invariably turned the AC on waaaaay too cold. It really is neither necessary nor even healthy to be going from 40 to 15 to 45 to 15. I always had a sweater in my office because it was freezing in there. And I grew up in one of the coldest areas of the world...

(PS... so have you broken the rest of your windows yet? maybe you could turn into a month's vacation...)

I think Qataris like to overcompensate for the heat. In the winter when it's 20 C they are freezing, but when the AC has the house that cold they are hot. At work, I have a 2 ton split unit cranked up (or down) and a Canadian colleague came in and complained about the cold. Go figure!!
