Don't you love it in the winter when it is a cold 20 degrees the kids wear ski jackets with their thobes. They just don't go together. Do they get up in the morning, look in a full length mirror and think 'yip, this looks good' ? |

How about the Brits and other Europeans who wear socks with their sandals when it's well over 35 C outside? |

I just don't get this socks with sandals thing anyway. There are few things that look more ridiculous... |

Having lived in Austria, Germany, & The Czech Republic for many years, one realizes that socks with sandals is something they grew up doing. I suppose many Brits did as well. It's one of those cultural things. |

You see it among certain groups of Amuricans too... and I will be nice and stop right here concerning any comment about who they are.

I met up with a friend last night who is here(istanbul) on holiday from Qatar. Chatting about Doha and catching up with gossip made me realise I miss the place. |

Well, you could probably go back? Or did you burn the bridges when you left? |

No burnt bridges VS. I prefer life here in Istanbul, but I do miss the people in Doha. However, my g/f and I are thinking about going to Doha next year. Oh boy, round 2. |

Actually, Doha is becoming really popular now. I have heard of people moving from other Gulf countries to come and work here. It's very up and coming, safe, the people here are friendly, economy is booming and there are lots of opportunities for EFL teachers.... |

Actually I'd say that the number one reason EFL teachers are heading there is the expanded number of teaching jobs. The education city area is not hiring huge numbers of teachers, but they are offering some good pay and benefits. Unfortunately, the low population generally is going to limit the growth. But, it is sure better than it was 5-10 years ago.
