Any experience of working and living in this city? I've accepted a job at a school here and am belatedly doing some research. Any advice welcome! |

It's a very nice place. You should enjoy it there. The cost of living is low and they're at least 10 years behind the times. Compared to Northern Italy it's the dolce vita nuova.
Go for it. |

Bari is extremely liveable, great climate and you can eat really well. |

I was in Foggia for a year, which is near Bari, and I often went by Bari when travelling around the region. It's the 2nd biggest city in the south, but in my opinion it's nothing special. There's a castle, an old quarter, couple of interesting churches but other than that it's an ordinary and perhaps grubby city.
However it's a great place from which to tour the region Puglia, and even the rest of Italy - Rome is 4 hours away by train. Puglia's full of worthwhile places to visit, some just a stone throw from Bari, and whilst I wouldn't call Bari la dolce vita nuova, you're going to a beautiful and underrated part of Italy.
Oh and if you get bored of Italy there are always boats from Bari to Greece.. |
