I will soon be settling down for a stint at GUST in Kuwait and I would appreciate any advice on successful adaptation to life in Kuwait, and at GUST.
Any advice on where to get a flat, and where to avoid?
What to bring, and not to bring? No problem with music, clothing, the usual... But how about: an external DVD ROM, A Zip Drive, an electric razor, hair dryer, etc? Are adaptors available, or is it better to buy all new electronics on arric arrival?
How about cultural pitfalls to avoid? How careful must one be in choosing topics with students? What level of tolerance, interest in Western music for listening activities?
Thanks for any advice. Feel free to PM me. |

Why didn't you post this in the Kuwait section?
We could ask a moderator to move it there...
I can tell you on the electronics thing... take your computer related stuff with you. Buy all small items there, converters and adaptors are just a bother. (it's 220, mostly round plugs...)
With students avoid the usual... politics and religion...
Once you are there and see the location where you are teaching, that is the time to think about where to live. Talk to current teachers and admin at your job...
