Ok, so I went in to all the EFL schools, etc. in Wellington today and got on all theor relief teachers list, but it is not looking like I'll get much work.

So, possiby private tuition, then.

Any ideas where to put posters?
Any ideas about where to teach, if not going to each others' houses?
Any ideas about if I need to/how to decare this to the Tax people?

Thanks

I was doing privates in Wellington last year: I put posters up around Wgtn City Library, Vic university and the Massey campus, as well as supermarket notice boards. I also advertised [very inexpensive] in the local Chinese language press. Wellington public library is a great place for private tutorials, but if you or your students are enrolled at Victoria you can use their private study rooms in the varsity library.
If you are worried about the tax implications just cal the IRD direct.

out of interest, how much are you charging? Would $20 per hour be unreasonable?

$20 an hour for single students
$15 an hour per student if more than one taking lessons together (in a class)

discounts for 3+lessons a week.

Hello,

I attempted to teach privately (as well as a full-time position) a couple of years back but found that private students in Wellington were few and far between. The small number I did teach were mostly Korean schoolchildren living out of town in places like Johnsonville which meant I had to travel out there. if you have transport i would recommend advertising out there. Although it is a pain if you, like I did, live in the central city.

Good luck!

CLA is still there
There are about five schools still going, but they are very low on students.

I have been contacted by a number of parents of schoolkids, yes.

However, placing an ad in one of the Chiense papers led to me getting a job as a consultant on the paper....

CLA are barely hanging on - they are not doing CELTAs anymore. I used to teach there too so it is really sad to see that the late wages etc are still happening after this long.

Teaching opportunities in Wellington are few and far between, and for that matter are similar around the country.

If you need any specific information (anywhere in NZ) I may be able to help. PM me if you want any advice.

Amber
