You've got to laugh - or you'd cry. XImen wasn't a cricket player was he - or even a soccer player, they have 11 in a team too don't they? At least it makes my lot sound quite normal. |

I worked in a Spanish kitchen with a young Swede whose name was pronounced "urine." He claimed this was a common name in Sweden. I laughed every time someone called him. |

The reason some Chinese kids choose the name "Kinki" or "Kinky" is that there is a popular Japanese singing duo called Kinki Kids. Although that sounds perverted, I guess Kinki is a place name in Japan, and that's where the two singers come from.
When I taught junior I, I had a kid named Christ, who used to fight with his neighbor. I had a student named Junk, who I asked to change his name. This semester I had a student (who failed) whose name was Nicotine.
Usually I wouldn't tell a student to change his or her name unless it would lead to misunderstanding and ridicule if the person went abroad. This semester I did a lesson on embarrassing English, in which I explained why Fanny is not a good name if you are going to England, and why Cherry isn't such a good name either. Of course, I also told them about Dick and Randy. |
