Hi. Have chance of a job in Trieste and am urgently needing to know if I can live comfortably on 1000 euros a month there. What should I expect to pay for a 'decent' 2 bed apartment? Will I have enough left to fly home for holidays etc?

What is Trieste like to live in - anyone?

Urgent help needed please Shocked

Should have also asked:

Apart from 2 years tax free - how does Italy compare with Spain lifestyle/teaching wise?

Cool

Where is "home".?

If you are expecting to have 2 years tax free then you will probably be working illegally.

Home is UK and there is some agreement between Italy and Britain so that first 2 years is tax free.

This has been stated by several schools.

I would never work illegally.

Afraid I don't know the ins and outs, but there is some sort of treaty between UK and Italy so that first 2 years are tax free. Check with embassy maybe? Or Inland Revenue?

Is definately true, as has been said to me several times by several people.

I am afraid that several people have been guilty of telling you porkies. There is a two year tax exemption available for teachers new to Italy but it is only open to citizens of the US, Australia and New Zealand. Full details are available at

Thanks for the very informative link, John! Unfortunately this only seems to refer to International Schools. I am not aware of such conditions as a two year tax holiday for Australians and others applying to scuole di lingue. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Is sunseeker32 aspiring to teach at an International school or a scuola di lingue?
