Hi, I am looking for a teaching position in Manama. Is there anyone out there who knows any vacancy at his/her school?
Thank you so much,
Jay

Not much doing in Manama. Buy a flak jacket and join us on the other side of the Causeway ! the money is better and you can still sepnd your weekends in bahrain. Some even commute !

A difficult commute but some people do it. If you already have a driving licence from your country of origim/residence there shouls not be a problem.

exactly how difficult? i know they thoroughly search your car for contraband and you need some sort of renewal letter thingy every 3 months, but paint me a real picture. i'm seriously considering moving there and want to see if the commute's feasible. bahrain seems to have everything i need to settle for the long run, but i'm not so sure about al-khobar.

and "everything i need" does not refer to hookers, beer, and clubs. well, at least not the hookers anyways.

In the morning there is no guarantee that you will make it on time.

As scot47 says the problem is the unpredictability. There is also the question of cost. You'd have to pay the causeway fee twice a day.

I knew someone who did this 6 days a week for a year and a half. The commute was more stressful than his job in Khobar ! Sometimes 3 or 4 hours a day !

It may be relative... I worked with people in Washington DC who did a 3 hour commute every day... both ways!! And that was normally before and after rush hour.

I can't imagine...

One to two hours - each way - has become the norm for millions in large US urban areas... most of it in bumper-to-bumper traffic... and people wonder why I got out of working in business. Outside of New York City, there is little decent public transit.

Everyone wants the big house and the yard of suburbia, but it costs so much that they have to have the high pay job in the middle of the city.

Commute is quite feasible.

A lot of the guys i worked with at Aramco lived in Bahrain and commuted everyday.

45 mins in the morning if you leave around 6pm and the afternoon varies depending on when you leave but around and hour.

Wednesday is always bad.

Bear in mind if you want to do this you need to making a good salary.

You will have to pay a reasonable sum up front for accommodation ...probably three months and it isn't cheap for something reasonable in Bahrain and then there are the commute costs with a good car and petrol and the tolls. Then of course the actual living costs in Bahrain are a fair bit more. Probably better to do your grocery shopping in Saudi.

I didn't do it because it was easier to go across on the weekends when i needed to but if you have a good salary quite doable.

Some employers in Saudi Arabia require you to live here. Mine certainly does. And no way on the salary I get could I afford to commute - even if I was crazy enough to choose this stressful way of life.

What's stopping you going to sleep in Bahrain every night is the cost and hassle, not any university regulation.
