Hi I'm a junior in college and I have decided I will want to go and teach English overseas, more specifically, Africa. I have no idea where to start or what I should look into as far as requirements go and how you look for a job. People who have had experience with this type of stuff, want to help me with your advice? Thanks!!

What languages do you speak? What will your degree be in? Do you plan to get any teaching qualifications? Does money matter to you? What part of Africa btw?

Not many jobs in Africa. Best bet is to qualify as a teacher and then try the Peace Corps. You are a USAnian aren't you ?

Mind you the Peace Corps have a habit of sending you somewhere that you do not want to go to. So if you want East Africa they send you to Kazakhstan.

Please see www.justfriends.me.uk for details on our current teaching programme. I am English, a founder trustee of AVIF along with the Chairman of a Nairobi based NGO. I have ran a major summer school in NE China (65 international ESL teachers took part) www.zibofls.com so know virtually all the pitfalls with corruption, offers being different to reality, etc.
Not on my watch !!
One thing we will state, there is a definite higher safety risk in Kenya due to poverty but security will be high in the accommodation, and please don't forget the real reason we're there .. to help the children.
We partner with KPDP www.kpdp.kabissa.org who advocate on a grand scale for the disabled, as well as vulnerable children.
The programme is running for 5 weeks (4 weeks teaching and 1 week orientation/ safari) from late July 2006.
Please contact me for further details.
