Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever taught ESL with Kuwait Airlines? I am trying to figure out if this is a good deal or not. Are the teaching ESL jobs in Kuwait negotiable?
This is the inital package offered:
Salary range: Up to 850 Kuwaiti Dinar per month (inclusive)
made up of basic salary + special allowance (e.g. 500 + 350)
Annual Leave: 35 working days (i.e. 6 weeks)
Medical Benefits: As per KAC Health Insurance Scheme
Travel Benefits: Discounted airline tickets for staff (& immediate
family) as per KAC regulations
 Work visa provided
One free return from point of origin KAC economy air ticket
Note: if origin is not a KAC destination, an additional return economy class air ticket on other carrier to nearest KAC
destination (reimbursed on arrival)
Up to 200kg air cargo allowance on KAC flights (reimbursed on arrival)
Up to 7 days free hotel accommodation & transport to work, while you find accommodation
The food and accommodation as well as transportation are not provided. Could anyone tell me if this is a good deal as the cost of living in Kuwait is relatively high. I would appreciate any feedback. |

Without accommodation, it's poor. I was on similar terms ten years ago but with accommodation provided: I wouldn't recommend anyone to go for less. |

It depends on your education and experience. If you have an MA and a bit of experience, you should be getting closer to 800 + housing of about 250 (single status) as an absolute minimum. The rest of the package is fine. (could use a furniture allowance...)
If you have only a BA + CELTA and a year or two of experience, this would be OK.
As to whether it is negotiable... who knows? you could try and see, but I doubt it.

Walk away it is not enough. Without transport and accomodation you will need to add KD 300, per month, plus furniture. Some years ago KAC were paying KD.1000. IMHO no one should take a job in Kuwait for less than KD 800 + housing, transport etc. Try for KD 1100 you'll need it here. Good luck. |
