|

Hey there,
I am an Americn currently in TX and TEFL certified.
I have been doing a search for summer work, but seem to find most of the camps are in the UK, and as I am non-EU and have no work permit, these jobs are highly unlikely.
I am working from a distance and would really love to head to Europe in the summer, but would prefer to teach and get some experience down.
Any recommendations? I am open to any European country, East or West.
thanks. |

Check the national jobs databases, lioness.
Jobs are available, but they aren't always advertised or searchable in English. |

August is the traditional holiday month throughout Europe.
There aren't a lot of jobs mid June thru mid September, and the ones that do exist generally go to teachers here on the ground who have completed Sept-June contracts and have local contacts. You will likely need to limit your search to summer camp work, and don't plan to make any money to speak of! It's honestly more realistic to save your money and come to Europe on holidays - there is just not such a strong demand for teachers in either West or Central Europe, particularly without fairly serious qualifications. |

We are looking for native speakers of English to come to Germany 17.07. - 11.08.2006 to help out at our English day camp. You do not need teaching experience but you absolutely have to be extrovert and it would be very helpful if you can play an instrument, dance or sing. The camp is run be DFSR - if you can read German, take a look at www.dfsr.de. We offer great accommodation and pocket money of 100 a week. DFSR is in Heppenheim, a beautiful town between Frankfurt and Heidelberg.
For more details, please contact Juliet on [email protected]
Here is a camp in Germany if you are interested. |

Description: ESDC is an English speaking summer day camp with campsites located throughout Austria and parts of Germany and Hungary. The children between the ages of 6 and 12 attend the camps for one week sessions with the main goal of learning or improving their English. Each group of campers has a maximal number of 12 campers. The campers attend from 9am until 5 pm. Program is a mixture of games, sports, arts and crafts, drama and English language program. A counselor is required to include all those elements in their weekly program. The counselors will work according to a Counselor Handbook, however they must also be capable of creating new elements which will fit into the camp atmosphere as well as animating 12 children an entire week. The counselors will be required to follow the guidelines in the Counselor Handbook. Counselors are young adults who are responsible for a group of 12 children in a mixed age and language level situation, from 9am until 5pm. They will become acquainted with the program in a mandatory one week training program which takes place prior to the opening of the camps. Experience in animation or drama is an asset as well as experience with youth clubs, boy scouts etc. Camp Locations are throughout Austria and some parts of Germany. The campsites vary from classrooms in schools to an entire building from the Boy Scouts. Some are located in the countryside others in the middle of the city. You will be anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks in the same campsite. The number of the campers / campsites varies from 10 campers, where the counselors works on it's own to a campsite with 60 campers, where there will be 5 Counselors, each being responsible for it's groups but doing some activities together.
Highlights: Coordinator is responsible for organizing the camps in a specific geographical area. Each counselor will be assigned to a Coordinator who will be responsible for them and the camps in that area. The Coordinator supervises the camp and counselors as well as organizes the campsites, registration of children, sees that the necessary materials are at each campsite as well as information for the Counselors about the area, playgrounds etc. Counselors will be given notice of their coordinator in the middle of June as well as their work schedule. A Coordinator is not always present at the campsite, therefore the Counselor must be responsible enough to work independently. Counselor Schedule which will include the exact location of your campsite, Bed and Breakfast arrangements, number of counselors, transportation etc. will be sent out by the Coordinator in the middle of June. We have enclosed a copy of a Counselor Schedule from one of our counselors last year so that the counselors can get a picture of a schedule. Notification of acceptance will be given in the first week of May. An earlier notification date is possible for returning counselors, friends or acquaintances of old counselors.
Qualifications: Requirements are creative and outgoing persons with experience in camp life. Courses in education, teaching counseling is preferred. Counselors must be available from June 1, until September 15. Some will be able to work until the end of September. Counselors must be capable of following a week program as well as spontaneous to incorporate new elements into the program, being flexible enough to create a fun environment for the children as well as teaching. This is a summer program which incorporates learning with games. It is not classroom teaching. Counselors will have to be able to communicate with children who only speak German. There is no requirement of German for the Counselors, however the counselor has to feel secure enough to be able to work in a foreign country with children who only speak another language. Counselors must also be capable of arranging their own travel from one campsite to another if they won't be using the suggested travel arrangements from the Coordinator and to arrive at their next campsite punctually in order to start next camp. They will also be responsible for finding play areas in the town which they are working in accordance with the map given and taking care of their free time. Some camps are in the middle of nowhere. You are in Austria not NYC.
