Hi,

Im new to this forum. My wife is a HK Citizen and im a Canadian Citizen. What are the procedures to apply for a dependant visa. Is it like a guaranteed visa or do i have to have enough money or something like that? How hard is it to find a job if i get a dependant visa. I have 1 year teaching experience and a TEFL cert so far.

Thanks,

Gilly

Here's what I know, but why not just call Hong Kong Immigration Department? That would give you the most accurate information.

As I understand it, it's still just as straightforward to get a dependant visa as it's always been, it's just that you can't work if you're on a dependant visa anymore. If you want to work legally you need to apply for a work visa.

As for your financial staus, language skills, etc. affecting your application, it will make no difference, surely. You would be applying to be dependant on your wife, so your wife would need to demonstrate that she has the income necessary to support you (hence the name 'dependant visa'). I assume your wife is working, or planning to work, in HK, right?
