Sorry, I've got a brain focused on two countries(at least) that's the BC in Dubai. I don't think I stated that the BC closed in Egypt-did I?

nomadykaty, you've thrown me for a loop. This is the egypt forum, and you're asking me about dubai. Too early in the day for such confusion!! Very Happy I don't know where I posted about the BC CLosing in DUbai, but it is, in fact, true. I heard something about it being electronically available. It seems the library part is closing-not sure based on the article of classes are still available there.

The article is about the BC Dubai library, but not the entire BC in Dubai. The only thing that they're closing is the library-its going online. Everything else is open and will remain open. The Gulf News got it right, you just misinterpreted the info.

Yes, there is still a British Council and its English classes. It is just the libraries that are closing one by one.

This makes me sad for some reason. For so many years, the BC libraries were almost our only source of decent reading material in the Middle East (and many other parts of the world, I'm sure). I wouldn't have survived without the big one in Cairo and the small one in Muscat. Well... ok... I would have survived, but they certainly added to my life there before the internet and satellite TV.

The times are changing, but I still like to hold a book in my hand to read... not peer at a screen. Crying or Very sad
