i usually teach at high schools around tainan, and yesterday and had two hours with some brilliant students. the work i had planned for them was too easy and as this was our first meeting, i wasn't prepared for this pleasant surprise.
now i want to prepare some more challenging work for them, but as i usually teach students who are reluctant to do much without a lot of prodding, i need some help. for our next class i want to maybe use pieces of paper and put only one word on each of them. each student will draw a word out of a hat and then i want to have the students take turns talking about that one word for a minute or two. the words could be flowers, sports, vacation..... anything really.
i think these students will welcome the challenge of having to talk about something they may not be expert on and have to do it on the spot. although i may give the wrods to them a day in advance perhaps.
has anyone tried anything like this? if so, can you help me improve on this idea or give me any advice? these students are really good and will get bored easily if there's no challenge involved. i've looked at some of the stuff in the ideas section of this site, but much of it is not suitable for a class of this calibre. |
