Ever hear the expression "May you be in heaven an hour before the devil learns you are dead"?
Applied to TESL it goes like this "May you be out of the country one hour before your employer learns that you have skipped town and told him to take his job and shove it." |

Not necessary - not essential - not even a real consideration - run for your life! |

I prefer to have the run of my life than to run for my life! |

You gotta know when to hold 'em.
Know when to fold 'em.
Know when to walk away.
Know when to run.
You never count your money
When the cops point guns to your head
(check Capegirl's story on the General discussion forum's recent Runner thread.)
They'll be time enough for countin'
When the plane takes off.
Depending on the cirumstances, running might be worth losing a couple of weeks' wages.
I never had to do it, but I sympathize with those who have. |

@Wolf...I'm glad my experiences have offered some comic relief. Gotta love Kenny Rogers. You know, the gun incident happened on New Year's Eve, and it was actually a full six weeks later that I made my escape...although planning began in those wee hours of January 1st. I was not giving up my Thailand vacation. After it happened, my employers tried to assure me that it was a "gas gun" the officer had and that I didn't have anything to be concerned about. Hmmmm...I don't care if it was a freakin' toy gun, it was pointed at my head in a threatening manner. Time to "Run Runaway" (GBS reference for Wolf ). |

Well,yeah...if someone is pointing a gun at your head or some other unpleasant circumstance...forget the money and RUN!!But ..sometimes the circumstnces are not that serious...just be very discreet, stick around until the last payday and then RUN.If you can get your money(or part of it) and no one is threatening you with physical harm,BS them, get your money(after all,you worked for it) and then run. |

This is true. One must be careful not to overact.
PS Capegirl: A friend of mine once told me (his dad was a cop) that a gas gun shell at close range to your head can be fatal. Jeez, if they're going to lie, they could have picked a less dangerous lie.
Buy the ticket out.
Having it is paramount.
Boss says you have no clout.
Run, run away!
Great, now I'm suffering from acute oldsongitis.... |
