why not contact hsbc in Germany and ask them?

they have a site at hsbc.de, and you can switch the page to English.

Take cash and credit cards as well. It is a tactical mistake to rely on one method of payment.

The ATM has eaten my card in Germany on several occasions, so I recommend taking cash or you will find yourself in a pinch.
