Tylos Hotel is back in business. Now a family hotel without all those dodgy characters.

I rarely go to Bahrain now but I am curious. Is the place still overflowing with young ladies from the People Republic of China ? I ask merely so that I can fill a few pages in my unpublishable novel. Of course I have no interest in dalliance with ladies practising the oldest profession.

LOL. No it ain't. I'm staying there this weekend and it's like going back in time. Exactly the same decor, exactly the same locals propping up the bar, and exactly the same Sheilas knocking on your door. Still cheap though at 20BD, 15 if you're with Aramco, RC and others.

In the interest of public morality I feel impelled to check out these allegations. 15 BD you say ?

Dear scot47,

I can only applaud your exemplary civic-mindedness. Carry on.

15Bd for selected organisations. In a drunken stupor I also stumbled on a gay disco on the 1st floor.

I will investigate but will leave the disco for homosexualists to other - braver - souls than me.

I was planning a trip in the next few weeks too! Damn this revolution.

Recently I was emailed by the Tylos to say 'Don't worry, Bahrain is safe and you can come and stay at our hotel.' How can all those ladies make an honest living?

My last memory of the Tylos was having breakfast (complimentary) and seeing a mouse/or rat (I kid you not) running across the floor of the dining hall. When I told the waiter about it, I was told 'not to worry.'

This happened in 2008. Have not been back since.

I'm sure Manama is teeming with rodents, like most cities.

Has anyone stayed at Al-Bustan Hotel in Adaliyah?

Rodents - including the human variety - are everywhere, even in that institution where the ectoplasmic entity known as GHOST sells his pedagogical labour.

Nope, don't remember ever saying that Mr B although the old noggin is not what it used to be so you never know. Besides I only joined Dave's in 2009......maybe it was a time slip or I said it in another dimension. Stranger things have happened to me I can tell you.

Lets raise a cup of tea
To dear old Mr B
