cannyone clarify for me.... i arrived in taiwan on march 31st, entered on a 14 day entry stamp obtained at the airport, stayed until april 30th at which time i paid a small fine for overstaying. went to bangkok to get the 60 day visitor visa and returned to taiwan on may 8th on the 60 day visitor visa. had arc issued on june 28th. by my reckoning, i've been in taiwan a total of about 125 days so far, including the time before and after my visa run. but my agent tells me only the portion from may 8th counts towards 183 days before reduced taxes. i don't know who's right and who's wrong..... and it doesnt seem to matter as she is only deducting 6% from my salary anyway.
does anyone know the "law"? thanks.... 7969. |

It's my understanding that all the days that you've been in Taiwan should count.

the reason i'm worried is that i stop working for this agent at the end of august. going away fro a holiday and then will come back to taiwan. but if i don't for some reason finish 183 days in taiwan, since i only paid 6% tax all that time, i could have problems, according to my agent. i take everything she says with a grain of salt, but she likely knows more than i do just isn't telling me.

The problem with it is that if you don't finish 183 days, you won't get your tax money back.

i haven't paid the 20% tax in the first place, that's why i'm worried. i finish working for this agent at the end of august and if i don't find another decent job, i won't stay. but the tax issue could be a problem for me if i decide to return and someone notices that i never paid enough tax the first time around. i may not have 183 days under my belt before i leave.
