|
|
Hi everyone,
I have been perusing the message board here for a few months and figured it would be good to get involved in the discussion myself as I will be leaving Canada for Peru later this month. Before getting into details, I would just like to thank everyone here for their contributions- the information on this board has been very helpful and has really made me feel much more confident and comfortable about making this move- thank you all for your input; especially NatureGirl.
I just wanted to put it out there that after a short stay with a former student of mine in Lima, I will be making my way to Trujillo in early May. I know that it isn't the optimal time to arrive as far as jobs go, but I will be looking around at that time anyways. I am an experienced ESL and French teacher (fluent in both, have working Spanish) with a teacher's certification in my province, Alberta. I will be looking to teach at any level (I have experience from elementary school through adult education), and will also be exploring teaching privately.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if anyone has any leads on potential job openings, ideas for rooming situations, or if you would like to grab a coffee in a few week's time.
I'm Looking forward to seeing the city with my own two eyes and meeting a few people.

I suggest contacting luna chica or keepwalking for jobs in Trujillo. The best place to check with is fleming www.fleming.edu.pe Pay isn't high in Peru, but it's enough to live on. Expect about 700 to 900 USd in trujillo and up to 3000USD in Lima. Try international schools like Davy College in Cajamarca, prescott in Arequipa, Colegio Peruano Britanico, Hiram Bingham, Markham, roosevelt, Newton College, San Silvestre, all in Lima.
Privates in Lima are from 15 to 20 USd, outside between 5 and 15. Try also this link
Check your PMs. |

So- does anyone have any suggestion for housing? Ideally, I would like to be able find a roommate (ex-pat or local) to cut down on costs, but will probably look to stay in a hotel in the meantime. Do many families rent rooms in their houses? |

Hi, if you want something straight away, go to EL Cultural they pay 450 soles per course and if you work full time you do about 4 courses in a day over a month.
They are always hiring, especially someone with experience.
As for places to stay well there are plenty of places that rent out rooms with bathrooms for very little. If you want an apartment to yourself then you are looking at probably paying $200 at least.
Trujillo is nice and cruisy. Drop me a line when you get here and I would be happy to show oyu around.

With French as well you should check out Allianza Francais, who have a branch in Trujillo. Not sure what they pay but they are well established here.
Hope to meet you when you get here - I usually follow Luna Chic around to keep her out of trouble and teach her kid new swear words so if you contact her, you'll get two for the price of one. |
