Hi, I am planning to go back to Japan soon but I have a problem. I left very suddenly last year without paying a phone bill. I am worried about being chased when i return and fined. Has anyone been in a similar position? Obviously, I am willing to pay the bill once I return but I am worried that I am now on the Japanese equivalent of a blacklist... Any advice?

What phone bill didn't you pay, your land-line or your mobile bill? If it's your mobile, no problem just go with another company. If I was new to Japan I wouldn't even bother with a land-line I think, I'd just go with a keitai (mobile). If it's bothering you e-mail the company involved (NTT) they are bound to have an English language web page.
