Lots of Romanians in this part of Spain that I live. Its true many study and learn Spanish and emigrate to Spain.

But in my experience, most Romanians I have met seem to speak English as well. So who knows.. maybe they are interested in multiple languages. An interesting concept.

Having worked there myself, "teachers" in Romania are generally expected to have a university education.

Having said that, since there are relatively few native speaker teachers in Romania, you might find that a local school would be more than happy to give you some work considering you have a teaching certificate and experience.

The only "problem" with Romania is that pay is low and on your average Romanian salary, life isn't cheap. Bucharest is a very lively and fun place to live, and by European standards is cheap, but I do remember winter gas and water bills for my apartment used to be around $150 USD a month... so if you go to Romania on $200 USD a month and expect to get buy, you'll need to think of extra ways of supplementing your income, such as examining, private teaching, etc.

Work permits are easier to find if you get the job before you leave. It's worth pointing out that most people get the "visa extension" permit (a rather dirty looking green book with room for the stamps). This requires you to queue up the best part of the day at the clinic for and HIV and syphillis test, followed by another queueing session at the hospital for an x-ray to see if you have TB.......

For the record, I worked for the British Council. In my opinion I was paid handsomely and really enjoyed myself there. There aren't many jobs going for EFL teachers, this is true, however at the same time there aren't many experienced, qualified native EFL teachers who apply for the jobs on offer, at least in my 2 years there trying to find them!
