If you can't understand irony then you should not be teaching English.

Switzerland is not part of the EU and Mexico is not part of the USA. Get it ?

Next time I will explain everything in simple words for the benefit of the semi-literate who cruise these boards.

Scot,
It seems that many of our 'colleagues' are intellectually challenged as well as geographically challenged Wink

Scot, that isnt realistic. While I and every other person who has spent significant time in the British Isles appreciate your attempt to rig the job markets in our favour, there just aren't enough of us to go around. Like it or not, the Americans are good for something Very Happy

Found out recently that not only do you have to be a US citizen to be President of that country but also actually born there. What gives with this? Being born overseas - why should that disqualify you from leading the country? Rolling Eyes

The good news re this is that Arnie can never be President even if he became Governor of California!

Not only do you have to be born in America, you have to be from the same blood line as all the other US Presidents, for thats how that particular democracy works.

Sarcasm or Irony ?
If it is from me it is Irony. From someone else it is sarcasm.

Seriously though observers including Bill Bryson have commented on the inability of USAnians to comprehend irony.

But I can't help feeling that people should know more about the world beyond the USA. Believing that Switzerland is part of the European Union is akin to believing that New Mexico is not in the US or that Nova Scotia is part of that wonderful Union.

Why do so many Americans know so little of the world outside ?

If you have no intention of ever going there, I can understand not knowing about the EU or Switzerland. But for someone who is intent on gaining citizenship to not know what is within and without the borders, that is just bad.

Lajzar.... Laughing

Yeah... didn't think of it that way.

For those still at undergraduate level, what Lajzar has pointed out: this is a definition of irony.

I revise my question. It is not just USAnians who know and care little about the worldoutside their borders.

I will ask the question thus :

"Why is it that so many people attracted to jobs in TESOL know little about the world outside their own cabbage patch ?"

Hi, A from june 2002, A swiss passport basically works like an EU passport. If you want to work in Europe, then you have no legal concerns if you have a Swiss passport. You will be given residency automatically, if you have both a swiss passport and a job in the EU.
