A gentle reminder that it is Mother's Day soon so go out and get your cards to send home..
No, don't worry this isn't the main focus of this discussion - am more interested in where to buy cards that aren't full of flowers/teddy bears etc. If I sent one of these to my mum she's think I was seriously ill......
Has anyone else noticed the lack of decent - humourous, slightly risque cards on the island. If so here is a solution. In Adliya - back of Al Jazeera - round the corner, next to the Thai supermarket there is a little card shop. Admittedly he does mainly stock the flower/teddy bear varieties......however................if you ask for the 'special' cards - he'll get the cards out of a drawer for you and they are better. In fact - at times, they are much better......
They can't be put on disply though as people may be offended.......
Ha......I'm more offended by the type of cards I mentioned earlier. |

Hey kaw... more evidence that cards are not a 'guy thing' ...for us, 'special' doesn't mean porn... that is the male definition of 'special.'
I know exactly what she means. My mother hates those fluffy flowery cards and wants to laugh. One of her favorites are the "maxine" cards. Not being able to find decent cards in the Gulf meant that I always bought up a supply in the US for birthdays and such.

Very good question - um........March sometime.......let me just check - 18th March. Knew it was soon.........
Mothers days date seems to depend a lot on which country you're in - as you said - the - what was your expression - 'USAnians' have it another time.
Realistically does that mean we should be buying mums 2 lots or even more sets of presents depending on the dates it celebrated in in the country we are currently in and home country????? But then does the Queen get 2 lots of b'day presents for her 2 b'days????? |
