On the first day of school, all the students, parents, teachers and staff gathered in the yard for the speeches. This is a respected Koleji on the coast which claims to produce brilliant terminal academic results.
During the spiel given by the Principal of the Primary section his speech was not respected because parents and friends preferred to spend the time catching up on the latest summer happenings and other news. His words could only be partly heard, but he was oblivious to all of this and continued his formal words.
Now if parents show such disrespect for the Principal of the school section, it is understandable that students will replicate similar behaviours in class, which is the case. |

I think I may have mentionned this situation to you over wine last June... I'm surprised our horror stories didnt drive you away entirely!!!! We had a similar opening ceremony for primary today- utter chaos. I feel better though, because, well, I'm not teaching the chaos this year. The lise's ceremony was small but perfectly formed. Low key and relaxed, not so much shrieking into microphones. The new teachers, so full of hope this morning, returned drained and pale. I'm curious to see how the year progresses. |
