...und tanze gerne Polka,
und meine Braut heit Edeltraud,
sie denkt genau wie ich.....
And here I will continue my little poem:
Sie kocht am besten Sauerkraut
und tanzt am liebsten Polka
Deshalb ist auch die Edeltraut die beste Braut fr mich
Sing die Sauerkraut- Polka immer tags und Nachts
weil sie einen lustig macht
ich sage "ach, ich esse gerne Sauerkraut und tanze gerne Polka...."
etc. etc (repeating from the very beginning)
My observations with hints on literary interpretation:
1. This is a poem that could have been written by the grand master of German poetry, the famous Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, himself.
2. If the latter is true, then we also should analyse the question why that German language institute bearing his famous name does not really teach such precious pieces of literature in more advanced courses.
3. The motif of Sauerkraut is a prominent one in German culture. Germans are also nicknamed "krauts". In how far then life has become "americanized" in Germany to such an extent that most Germans seem to have abandoned this traditional custom and eat Hamburgers in a Mac Donald's place instead? What are the implications of this significant shift in German culture?
4. Eat sauerkraut, and you willl be healthy.......
5. With respect to my German language level:
Is this good and perfect German? Or is it not?
If it is not, I must eat more sauerkraut...buuuhhhh....
P.S.:
Beware...
German crocodiles in the Rhine river also like sauerkraut....
An official government announcement made by the Bundeskanzlerin???
