Hi everyone! I'm making the move from Japan to Australia and I've been offered a DOS position in Sydney at what seems to be a nice school...I'm going in for a final meeting to discuss the position and have been told the salary is 'negotiable'... any one out there with any DOS experience that feels like giving me a rough idea of a decent salary? I have an MA TESOL and good experience, but haven't worked in the Sydney market before so I'm not sure what the pay is like there...

Thanks in advance for any help!

I am an American citizen working as a DOS in China at the moment. I am under consideration for a DOS job in Sydney. The pay offered is $50,000 a year, plus bonuses. I have a wife and toddler, who also aren't Australian citizens. Would such pay allow us to live a comfortable life in Sydney?

Where in Sydney is the school? If it's central, you wouldn't be able to live comfortably unless you like commuting and your wife was working too. And who's going to pay for the visas? I believe that can be quite costly.

It is in Brookvale, and I believe the visas will be taken care of by the school.

Oooh! Northern Beaches! Very nice! A lovely part of Sydney, but a little expensive. Take a look at www.realestate.com.au for rentals and homes for sale, that should give you an idea of how much of your salary you'll be paying on rent.

Not sure where in the US you're from, but going by the places in the States I've visited, the public transport in Sydney is much better than in the US, so you might be able to be car free.

DOS's are a dime a dozen in the current economic climate.

Why not hire a new M.Ed grad....and there are lots of them!
